Much of our time in London was spent running errands. It turns out that after a year on the road, there’s a lot of life that just catches up with you! So we worked on things like a doctor’s appointment, visas for Asia, picture uploading, shopping for new rain gear, etc. Between all that and the Olympics, we actually had to work to make time for some of the “normal” London tourist ventures. But we did make time!

It was nice that for the most part, we were able to get around the city mostly by bike. So in just a few half days we were able to see some of these highlights:

A must-see for all London-goers… Big Ben and Parliament Square!

Westminster Abbey… we tried to stop in for an Evensong service, but they weren’t having one that day. But still beautiful to see from the outside!

We stopped in Trafalgar Square for a quick picnic between shopping trips!

And of course, what is a trip to London without going to see a show? I (Bethany) had seen Wicked before in NYC, but was hoping to share the experience with Dave. We went looking at TKTS for half-price tickets, but apparently Wicked never discounts… except the day of, if you buy from the box office itself. So we went and got in line early that morning… and score! Not only did we get tickets, but the discounted ones they sell are front-row seats! It was a slightly “restricted” view, sure… there were times we couldn’t see people’s feet. But altogether, it was awesome!

Wicked at the Apollo Victoria… definitely a highlight.

And of course, we enjoyed watching Olympic events on the big screens in public parks, with views like this off to the side!

The Tower Bridge by night!
